BBQ Patties with Thai Sweet Chili Sauce

BBQ Mince Patties

Store-bought BBQ patties are pricey and rarely match the flavor of homemade ones. Making your own is quick, easy, and delicious - whether you’re cooking on a BBQ grill or in a frying pan. Plus, homemade patties are far more forgiving when it comes to ingredient quantities.

In this photo wild venison mince is used (because that's what we have), but this is easily swapped with ground beef mince.

Ingredients:

500 gm mince

1-1.5 cups breadcrumbs (enough to bind the mince together)

1 egg, beaten

2 tbsp Sweet Thai Chili sauce

Finely chopped fresh herbs if you have them (parsley, spring onions, chives)

1 small onion or shallot, finely chopped

1 clove garlic, crushed

Several good grinds of salt and black pepper

A light coating of olive oil to cook

Sweet Thai Chili sauce to serve

Method:

Beat the egg, add the sweet chili sauce, onion, garlic, herbs, salt and pepper and mix together.  'Mash' the mince in with a fork.  Lastly add the breadcrumbs little by little and mash in with the fork until the mixture binds and is not wet.

Shape portions of mixture into balls and place on a plate.  Store chilled and covered until ready for the BBQ.

When ready to cook flatten into patties in your palm, or use a fish slice on a flat surface.  Don't flatten too thin or they'll burn.

Cook on BBQ grill at high temperature, making sure they're cooked through before serving.

Serve hot with Sweet Thai Chilli Sauce and summer salads of your choice.
